The Korean Literature Association is a community of scholars committed to advancing the study of Korean literature and culture. Originally founded in 2008 at the University of Chicago as the North American Workshop on Korean Literature (NAOKOL), the KLA was launched under its present name in 2014 at the University of California, Los Angeles.

We engage in critical endeavors that question and expand the fields of Korean literature, film, and cultural studies across forms, genres, and periods through comparative analyses of textual and visual narratives. We promote collaboration, support, and

mentoring of scholars at all levels, and facilitate exchanges of innovative ideas about teaching and research. Programs sponsored by the KLA include annual academic conferences, workshops, and public events that enhance the visibility and understanding of Korean literature and culture.

The KLA maintains close partnerships with the Literature Translation Institute of Korea, the MLA Korean Literature and Culture Forum, and the AAS Committee on Korean Studies.
